The
United States yesterday Monday 21 Aug 2017 witnessed a total solar eclipse. The
eclipse was special as it was visible across America with the moon blotting out
the sun completely in 14 states at different times throughout the day.
The
solar eclipse was streamed live online for the first time, from the vantage
point of helium-filled balloons across the United States, providing the public
with sky-high views as the moon blocks the sun.
According
to Reuters report, a team of researchers from Montana State University has
partnered with NASA to participate in the Space Grant Ballooning Project to
send more than 50 high-altitude balloons 80,000 feet (24,384 meters) up to capture
the solar eclipse as it crossed the country yesterday August 21
This
is the first time a solar eclipse was streamed live on NASA's website.
Apart
from the website, NASA also live
streamed on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube page.
United
States will witness the next total solar eclipse in April 2024, said the NASA. The website stated that the eclipse "will
come up from Mexico through Texas, proceeding through Carbondale IL (the point
of longest eclipse for 2017) and on to New York, Maine, finally leaving land in
Newfoundland."
The
next eclipse which will be a partial solar eclipse is set to occur in February
2018, which cast its shadow over South America and Antarctica.
After
that, the next total solar eclipse is expected to occur on July, 2019. This
eclipse will be seen over Chile and Argentina.
