Nnewi—The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, yesterday, said it is holding five South-East state governments, particularly, Abia State and Ohanaeze Ndigbo responsible for the siege and invasion of its leader and Director of Radio Biafra, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu family house in Afaraukwu, Umuahia, Abia State. IPOB in a statement by its Media and Publicity Secretary, Comrade Emma Powerful, alleged that “Abia State Government in collaboration with other South-East State governments and Ohanaeze Ndigbo designed, perfected and unleashed Operation Python Dance on the people and the accompanying killing spree ostensibly to eliminate our leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, since he cannot be bought or compromised. Leader of Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu “We, the IPOB, under the command and leadership of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu are holding the Government of Abia State, four other South-East state governments and Ohanaeze Ndigbo responsible for the siege and invasion of our leader’s compound in Afaraukwu Ibeku, Umuahia from September 10 to 14, 2017. “The repeated denials of Governopr Okezie Ikpeazu and his hired hands will not eradicate the fact that, he, along with other South East governors designed and perfected Operation Python Dance and the accompanying killing spree ostensibly to eliminate our leader. “The Abia State government led by Dr Okezie Ikpeazu should, therefore, stop deceiving Nigerians on his real motive for imposing the curfew that followed the attack on Mazi Kanu’s home. He should rather toe the part of sanity by accepting responsibility of his well thought out action with his co- conspirators and give a true account of their action, before the people of Biafra. “He should also explain how they managed to allow envy and jealousy over the popularity of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu to overwhelm them to the point of conniving with the Nigerian Army in killing defenseless unarmed Biafra agitators fighting for the liberation of their people. “The Abia State governor’s claim that he imposed a curfew during the invasion of our leader’s house in Umuahia to save 11 million Igbo in the North is laughable. That was a fabricated lie to deceive the people and with the intention to deflecting rising anger against him by Biafrans in Nigeria and in the Diaspora.” “The only reason Dr Okezie Ikpeazu imposed a curfew in Abia State was to stop IPOB members from mobilising to defend our leader, Kanu, during the invasion of his home by the soldiers. that he personally invited into Abia State. If it was the interest of securing the lives of Igbo in Hausa territories as they claim, they would not have escalated tension in the country by actively asking the Nigerian Army to come and kill the arrow-head of IPOB.” “What South East Governors and the Ohaneze Ndigbo leadership did not factor into their calculation was that IPOB is a global movement with a unique structure that no man can destroy, the architects of that attack were dreamers for thinking their well crafted lies which they have been selling to media houses can save them from the impending doom.”

S-East govs responsible for invasion of Kanu’s house —IPOB

Madrid & Barca both cruise, but boring Copa needs new format.
Spain's
two top fielded under-strength sides away from home, but take healthy leads
into the second legs. It's time to make the cup more exciting...
No
surprises in the Copa del Rey. Barcelona beat Murcia 3-0 away from home on
Tuesday night with hardly any of their first-team regulars in the
line-up and Real Madrid followed up with a 2-0 win at nearby Fuenlabrada
on Tuesday as a host of big names stayed at home. It is time for a change.
Every
year, there is talk of 2009 and Madrid's 4-0 loss to Alcorcon: the Alcorconazo
. That remarkable result proved to be the beginning of the end for coach
Manuel Pellegrini as Los Blancos crashed out following a narrow 1-0 win in the
return leg at the Santiago Bernabeu.
But
ever since then, there have been no real shocks in Spain's cup competition.
Why? Because the big clubs have grown richer and even with a second or third
XI, an upset is unlikely
Barca
beat Murcia on Tuesday with goals from Paco Alcacer, Gerard Deulofeu and
youngster Jose Arnaiz. The first two played for Valencia and AC Milan,
respectively, before moving to the Catalan club, while the latter was an
exciting talent brought in from Valladolid (who play in Spain's Segunda
Division, one tier above Murcia). Even without Lionel Messi et al, the
Blaugrana were huge favourites.
Madrid
made harder work of Fuenlabrada, but ultimately prevailed after two penalties
(at least one of which was somewhat fortunate) scored by Marco Asensio and
Lucas Vazquez.
Nevertheless,
there was never any real danger of Zinedine Zidane's side being beaten in this
match - even without Cristiano Ronaldo, Marcelo, Karim Benzema, Keylor Navas,
Sergio Ramos and their entire first-choice XI. For both Barca and Madrid, the
return matches will be a formality.

Murcia
and Fuenlabrada will both have been happy to welcome Spain's big two teams, but
a one-off game would be much more exciting. That would oblige the top sides to
take the match more seriously and would also allow fans to see some of the
world's top players at stadiums where they would usually not appear.
As
it was, there were some good stories from the last 16. Numancia scored two late
goals to beat Malaga 2-1, while Ponferradina edged out Villarreal, Elche drew
at home to Atletico Madrid and tiny Formentera held Athletic Club.
However,
all of the Primera Division sides are at home in the second legs, making upsets
extremely unlikely. So it is high time for a change of format in the Copa del
Rey. One-off ties, like in England, will guarantee more excitement, bigger
crowds and perhaps even the occasional shock. Because surely that is what cup
football is all about.
Dozens killed in fireworks factory blaze in Indonesia
At least 47 people have been killed
and 46 others injured in an explosion and blaze at a fireworks factory in
Indonesia.
The number of dead could rise as many
of those who managed to escape had extensive burns, said Nico Afinta from
Jakarta police.
"Those who died are completely
unrecognizable, totally burnt," firefighter Oni Sahroni told reporters .

factory fire
Many of the fatalities were female
workers at the plant near the capital.
Witnesses said they heard a huge
blast, followed by smaller ones which echoed across the neighbourhood in
Tangerang.
Orange flames and black smoke rose
from the stricken building, located near a residential area.
"My friends and I and some
police officers knocked down a wall so people could escape, then the workers
came out," resident Beni Benteng said.
"I saw people including women
were jumping from above - oh my God," he added.
Authorities said the fire spread
quickly after starting near the front door.
"Victims were found piling at
the back - it seems like they were avoiding the blaze at the front door,"
Mr Afinta told reporters.

Tangerang police chief Hary Kurniawan
said the plant, which had more than 100 employees, began operating less than
two months ago.
Quoting a local official, reporters
said that while the factory had a permit, its closeness to a residential
neighbourhood was against regulations.
"We are still investigating the
cause of the fire and questioning witnesses," Mr Kurniawan told reporters.
"Factory owners or anyone who
neglects and violates safety rules should be held legally responsible."

Monkeypox spreads to 11 states
The
Federal Government, yesterday, said the Monkeypox virus has spread to 11 states
with 74 suspected cases as against seven states and 33 cases recorded on
October 11.
Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, stated this when he briefed
State House Correspondents on the outcome of the Federal Executive Council
(FEC), meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari, at the State House
Council Chamber, Abuja.
Adewole,
who, three days ago, said there were only three confirmed cases, listed the 11
affected states as Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Ekiti, Enugu, Imo,
Lagos, Nasarawa and Rivers.
“The Council received
an update on the state of the public health of the nation. We informed the
council about the latest development in respect of the Monkeypox virus
outbreak. So far, as of today (yesterday), there are 74 suspected cases in 11
states of the country.
“We have confirmed three from Bayelsa and 12 of the suspected
cases from Bayelsa tested negative; four suspected cases from Lagos tested
negative. We are still expecting the results of the other ones.
“We are also doing test at the African Centre of Excellence
for Genomics of Infectious Diseases (ACEGID), Ede, to really understand the
genomics of this virus. Even when they are negative, the laboratory attendant
should be able to tell us what exactly they are,” he said.
He, however, dismissed rumour that the virus was being spread
by the military through vaccination.
“The military is not involved in any vaccination exercise.
And I must also educate Nigerians about how vaccination campaigns are done. The
Federal Government will take the lead but we do not conduct campaign without
working with states. So, there is no way we will do campaign without working
with the states,” he said.
But he disclosed that the ministry would soon start
vaccination against measles while a nationwide vaccination against Yellow Fever
would commence before the end of the year.
This is even it he said the Federal Ministry of Health was
conducting vaccination in only three states- Borno, Kwara and Kogi.
While cholera vaccination was being conducted in Borno,
Yellow Fever vaccination was ongoing in Kwara and Kogi.
Asked if the military medical outreach was in good fate, the
minister replied: “With respect to what the military is doing, I spoke about
vaccination and not about military campaign. The military, as part of a
campaign of winning over the heart and soul of the people will get engaged in
several things. In the past, the military was noted for even constructing
roads, the military would do outreaches, measure blood pressure, talk to
people. These are normal things; I referred only to vaccination. We had to
request for the assistance of the military in Borno State to reach inaccessible
area with respect to the polio campaign. So, we have worked with the military
in the past and we will continue to work with them.
“There are doctors in the military, there are nurses and when
you go abroad, some of the best institutions abroad are managed by the
military. So, we cannot disown the military. But what I want to put across is
that the military is not involved in any vaccination.”
He also red the red flag on the nefarious activities of
illegal traffickers of kidney, who he tagged illegal organ harvesters.
“With respect to the harvest of organs, we received advice
periodically from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the
Federation, from the National Security Adviser about goings on around the
world, one of which is the harvest of organs illegally; and it is our duty to
alert Nigerians that this is ongoing. They should be careful, they should seek
advice, they should patronise only accredited institution. And as we rebuild
our health infrastructure, there will be less need for anybody to travel out.”
This, he said would spare Nigerians the agony of falling
victims of some of the illegal practices.
